New rear badges wont fit

So guys ive got myself new Volkswagen and Golf GTI badges for the boot lid on my Rivage. The old ones were fitted with double sided tape so i just peeled them off but now the pins on the new badges wont fit into the holes on the boot. The new badge pins are spaced too far apart and arent even close to fitting. They are from Classic vw.

Even the Volkswagen one is mile off.

I dont get why they are so misaligned.

I know i could snap the pegs off and tape them on but id prefer a proper fit.

Well I wanted a shaved rear boot, and found one in a wrecking yard on a 82 or 86 well the (you know no high mounted stop light.

The emblems off my 90 didn't have hte same mounting holes that the earlier one did.  I cut the pins off
and  used clear Silicone RTV to glue them, I had to tape them in place….till it set 24 hours, and to be honest they
held up on impact….Bent with the metal.






 

Different badges for different years.
There's also plastic plugs that should go into the holes. Not that that would throw out the spacing.
