Mk1 GTI Campaign Parcel Shelf

Hopefully the pics will explain but I appear to be missing some hangers on my parcel shelf.

It’s annoying as I have to shut the boot slightly and get my hand in the straighten it before I can close the boot.

The panels either side look a bit too shiny, as in probably reproduction type ones or possibly the wrong design entirely.

What are my options?

From your pictures it doesn't look like the shelf is screwed to the back of the seat. There is a metal ( I think) strip that fits between the shelf and the back of the seat and is screwed through two plastic blocks.

Basically your shelf is permanently fastened to the back seat. As for your side shelves, look okay apart from missing a bit of carpeting to stop rattles. not sure also if your parcel shelf is a genuine one for that model year as looks slightly different material to mine.

The bow in the deck means that the thing is narrower than it should be, as I thought there was less and a 1/8 gap when I closed the hatch to the parcel shelfs and the sides.
I Suppose you could thicken each side with a 1/4 inch piece of wood that would probably make up the differences and it would then self center.

Find out the distance on each side add it up, then divide by 2….  You can take wood cut to width for the edges fill the edges with filler then paint black to match, just use
countersunk machine screws to hold it to the parcel shelf…. Done right it will look OEM and not be noticed.

You can also extend the edges of the side frames similarly.

I don't remember the side frames ever being that shiny, or that far from the shelf edges….

You can take the bow out by using a piece of angle aluminum and popped riveted to the back of the shelf on the underside.
 

It is screwed to the seat but there is no metal strip and a lot of slack which causes it to swing out.

I assumed there would be some hooks that have broken off it.

The car is going to be as original and perfect as possible so if the parcel shelf and rear hanger plastic bits need to be replaced, what am I looking for?
