I'm doing a bit of work on a cabby and I was wondering where the bottom half of the dash was fixed? I pushed in the four fixings I don't know what there called, but I can't see any screws, that I can access without damaging the trim. . There's two thes on either side

The lower knee bar is attached by Screws to the lower dash in 3 or 4 places.
The lower knee bar is Bolted to the "A" pillar by 2 nuts and 2 bolts per side 13mm.

You can see the bolts by Craning your body to view from the bottom, and or Taking out the Drivers and Passenger side Vents from the dash
The ones on the Passenger side of RHD cabbies or LHD Cabbies (left/right) have the Fuse Box that may be in the way.  So DISCONNECT the battery first.

Remove the Center Console 2 Phillips at the top, and one at the rear parking brake.  Remove the Gear Shift KNOB and pull the console out and up at the rear rocking as you go.  The wires are usually affixed to the left of the heater box in a plastic clip, There are 3 connectors and 3 lamps that have to be removed to facilitate the removal. (prior to taking the knee bar out.)..

Be warned you only have to loosen the nuts, but have to remove the bolts.  It can weigh up to 70pounds so be careful…Going back I insert it on the nuts, then tighten them slightly, then start the bolts so I don't have to strain.

Once everything is started, then PUSH it UP and in place to make as small a distance as you can to the upper dash.

Screw holes that hold the knee bar to the dash, 2 Center two on the ends.  (which may be there or not) You don't need them to stop squeaks if your closed cell foams is intact.

Here is a back view of it removed the Braces are what is screwed to the kneebar if your Dash is still Virginal, they are a pain in the butt to install or remove.  So most leave them off once removed.

Yes I do have a bunch of things that I have Photographed over the years…When I do things that I have noticed aren't written up or lacking pictorial description.  :)

Like where are the relays for the Automatic Interlock on a 90 ish, as they aren't in the fuse panel where the Bentley says they are.  :)

Hint……

Backside of the knee bar.

So if you have an 90ish auto, you have to watch out but as yours is Crank Windowed you don't have those worries. Yes, I can tell by the knee bar.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?
