Has anybody dismantled an ignition barrel to fit new tumblers and key matched to other locks?

As per title, I have a very good tailgate lock with two original keys and I would like to re-tumble my other locks to match. I have the barrel removed from the steering lock but not sure how to dismantle the barrel without destroying it. Can anyone pint me to a how to on the ignition lock?
Also looking for a set of tumblers if anyone can point me in the right direction.
I do have a complete spare set of locks as I currently have a set of MK2 barrels fitted with an AH key.
Thanks in advance!

crazyquiff has a re-key service for ignition barrels

See link —–   http://www.golfmk1.co.uk/Items.php?cat=search&group=ignition%20re-key

I seem to remember he sold the kit to do it yourself, but I couldn't find it (I didn't look that hard though)

Thanks for the link, I'll drop them a line.
I have the barrel apart now, it's quite straight forward to do.

How does the ign. barrel come out?
I had a look briefly after changing the door handles yesterday but it was time to go to the pub so I cut it short!

If you got new handles it is way easier to re-key those than to re-key your ignition.

You have to drill out the pin that holds the barrel for the tumblers, and that is a thing best left for those that have done it.

I had the same issue as I had 2 door keys and one ignition that was the same as the boot and glovebox.
So I took the barrels out of the door and re-keyed them to take the ignition key.

I had a few spare handles I got at the breakers, and then I took the waffers out of others to get a good variety of them to use….  Makes it easier to lock and unlock the car now.  (although with a vert I never lock the doors) learned this lesson from my 67 mg midget and a sliced top, not like you couldn't take it loose to open the door..

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Thanks for the info .
I've replaced both door handles so they're the same key, the complete set wasn't available for a MK1 so I had a MK2 set and a separate hatch lock/key which can stay in the car.
We can live with door and ign being different!
