Glove box and centre console

Post

Hi all

I am trying to fit a glove box which has never been installed in my '76 Golf. I was hoping to just unscrew the top part in the "hole"  in order to fit the insert, but unfortunately it is heat welded onto the rest of the dash along a flange on the backside. I could drill these out, but wonder if the glove box will fit at all with the top part removed? Or are the inserts designed for another dashboard?

I'm also upping the interior with a centre console, but not sure how the bottom screw near the shifter is supposed to sit. The original screw is 55 mm long, so i guess there should be a bracket on the chassis for this? Thanks

To be honest I've never heard of anyone trying to do what you want.
Most owners with such an early Mk1 spend the time and money trying desperately to keep theirs standard.

So the best I can offer is this bump back to the top of the list for the start of the weekend!

Well the glove box and console are all early mk1 so still keeping it original I guess. Thanks anyway
