Door lock pins

Post

Anyone know where you can get the door lock pins to convert the door locks. I believe the part no is 443 898 041A, but don't seem to be able to find a definite source.

Otherwise it'll mean butchering a load of old door locks 😄

You can still get the kit from VW, but it's about £8O.
They seem to be even more in the US https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-volkswagen-audi-parts/tumbler-plates-and-springs-1-set/443898041a/

Thanks, £80 seems a bit excessive so it may mean get some locks unfortunately. I've got a few though so with a bit of luck I'll have enough bits.

I've not looked but have you tried www.werk34.de?
They have a large selection of Mk1 parts and you'll find part of the website is in English.

There are a good bunch and do post to the UK. 👍🏼

Go to a breaker and get the door handles off a variety of Golfs, GTI's Cabriolets, jettas you can also get the pins or wafers out of the trunk locks which is way easier to remove the pins and springs, which is what I did to get an assortment of pins to rekey my mismatched lock sets…..  I left the ignition key alone and matched it to the handles and rear hatch as it had 4 keys, and all were different save for the OEM ignition key with the key fob numbers.  Yep Drivers door different from trunk, passenger door different from drivers and ignition, and only the ignition and glove box locked with the same key….

www.cabby-info.com has a link to a how to on re-keying your locks.  I don't think that a locksmith would cost you that much to re-key if you take out the lock cylinders   which is easy to do.

Some call them pins, some call them wafers and some call them tumblers…..

There are only about 4-5 different ones made,

Ok. I'll have a look at werk34 first and then it'll be breakers, though it'll have to be online breakers I guess as I'm sure I won't find any mk1s locally in their yard.

As an update to this the new handle and lock was very similar to the old one, so with a bit of shuffling around I've got something that works. It's not perfect and catches a bit but I can live with it for now.

Won't be too much of a bother once I've got the central locking working again (just a bad wire).

Thanks for the help 👍🏻

Catching is because the wafers are sticking above the lock barrel with the key inserted just ever so much.
Probably only one or two.
The ones that don't fully retract with the key in can be filed smooth to the lock barrel and your issue will go away.
