You can fit most anything to the mk1, I had one I put Passat seats in, the issue is modifying the bottoms of the new seats to fit the rails.

For the Passant seats I took the side bolster supports off and the foam was a direct fit to the mk1 bottoms.
Same for the Seat backs.

I made some covers to go over the holes for the adjusters

I tell you they sat well, and were better on me during long trips, and were cool in the summer and warmer in the winter…..

Others have modified the seat rails and did a full install of the seat bottom and back.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

mk5 are pretty tricky as conversions go, the front mounts are the main thing they are pretty far off how mk1 work. bit of chopping and welding to the seat or the car

Thanks guys I work with metal so I can early just chop and weld up…was thinking about buying 2 seat cages and just cutting then straight off and welding them to a simple frame on the mk5 seat…just wondered if they were ok and not to big in the car when installed…I'll keep original seats intact

So I started to fit my seats…..I was hoping to keep the mk6 on there own rails and just mount a mk1 rail to it so I could use ALL the mk6 functions…but no it was a process of having to spend more time than I wanted to on them as I was just going to stay behind after work todo them…so I ended up cutting the mk6 ones right off and just fitting the mk1 frame…I am able to use the mk1 original way to slide the seat forward and back which is abit crappy compared to the modern mk6 smooth rail.. and I can still adjust the back and flick seat forwar I just can't use the ratchet to go up or down..you need the mk1 frame all the way in the seat so your heads not put the roof and I didn't want to cut the slides off and weld them on indavidualy I wanted to keep it all together so it's all set up to slip right in my car didn't take long it's abit crude and I was just using off cuts I found at work…had to be careful welding it as I didn't want the foam to catch fire and the metal is 1mm in places so can be a pain…but one is in and works well enough for me!!
