Chrome moulding window scraper seals

Post

Hi,

I have accidently dented the chrome mouldings that the window scraper seals is inserted to when i dissasembled them. I though that I just could get new ones but the seem to be a bit hard to find.

Are they discontinued? Can I fix the old ones in any way?

Depends on the Bend and what you did then your tools/skills to get them back right, as they are aluminum…. In my case Painted over black.

My 81 Golf/Rabbit was chromed or polished aluminum.

So my best bet is to find someone scrapping  a car and get a set in black or chrome as it depends on the options they bought, ie:

81 Golf/Rabbit plain jane they are black
81 LS Colf/Rabbit they are Chrome or at least mine were.

I thought the Cabbies as in the early ones were also Chrome, where as the latter 90's I know were Painted over base metal.

I forgot what my father was working on exactly But I knew he had a block of LEAD 1ftX3ftX 4"thick.  I watched him take a torch and heat up the lead to get it hot to float the top flat.  Once it was flat he placed a piece of what he was going to repair across it so he could get the profile, then he proceeded to heat the metal he was working on a little bit Lay it in the profile and with Punches/Chisels/wooden dowels beat the dents out of what he was working on….I was AWED….. well I was 6 or 7 at the time…… Melting Metal, Flames, Hammers…….what more could you ask for.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

rare as hens teeth!

previous owner allowed body shop to work on the car with them still attached, therefore back ones are scratched and need some work.

cheapest option is to get yours fixed by mental work guru

what i plan on doing when i can be bothered taking them out as i believe rears are a pain in the bum

Yes they are a pain to remove, as I have had them out.
Both front and rear when I was looking at scraper replacement on the outers.

The Front is a 1 piece Curved for the wing area on my Cabriolet, I used to have a spare set, but in my last move I sort of pitched the parts I wasn't going to use.

IIRC I used a plastic scraper between the "Chrome" and the door and pried up like opening a can from the door end to the wing
