Why would you do this in a KR conversion?

Hoping you might shed light on why my KR mk1 has metres of fuel line, that don't seem necessary!

Instead of the braided line entering the engine bay from down by the rack and coming along the driver's side inner wing, filter king bracketed there and then a short run of hose to the carbs, it enters, swings all the way around to the pass. side, filter king is on a bracket by the battery, then around to the carbs. It's ugly, has way too tight radius bends in it, and I don't understand! Is there a good reason for it taking this circuitous route? You might see it, stainless overbraid, all around the engine bay:

no reason that I can think of except the angle of the pipes on the carbs, if easily changed move it all over to the driver side. the oem mk1 brake lines run over to the passenger side on the GTI, so maybe they thought VW did it for a reason other than there wasnt room on the driver side for the airbox

Thanks for that- very helpful!

I am thinking of running the fuel line from where it enters the bay along the Driver's side inner wing, mounting the Malpassi FPR there on a bracket that is available, and running a very much shorter fuel line to the driver's side of the first carb. Loses about 3 metres of braided hose! It should look a lot neater and have some more sensible curves, meaning less stress and pulling on the connections.

There are so many of these little (!) jobs to do. I don't know if there's a relay on the fuel pump and as my kids will eventually travel in the car, I'm keen to make it safe. Similarly why it might be an idea to put a heat barrier between the exhaust manifold and the steering column boot!

its fairly simple to wire up a relay if you have the CE1 fusebox. pop a std kjet gti relay in slot 2, run fuel pump power either to factory pin E/14 or to large spade N with inline fuse.

go for one without a limiter, so VW relay #2 or 63, part number 443906059A, 321906059D/E or 321906059F, or GSF part number 935VG0090
