Polo 6N2 GTI front brake conversion - anyone done it?

Post

I've got a full Polo GTI 6N2 brake setup with hubs in my garage from a GTI I was breaking.

Has anyone used the front brakes from a 6N2 GTI on a MK1 before? Im just thinking I already have these and would save buying more stuff if I can use these. They would have plenty of stopping power for what I'd need.

If memory serves me correct, the Polo 6N2 only has 256mm single piston front brakes. Standard mk1 GTI brakes are 239mm so not a huge increase.

There are much easier ways of upgrading to 256mm  front brakes using the existing mk1 hubs.

as above really. the bearing carriers are quite different but with effort can go, but you'll probably wont ever get the steerign geometry right.

the calipers and carriers are the same as mk2 16v except they have banjo hoses on, so you'll need different hoses.

the carriers wont fit mk1 hubs so you would need scirocco 16v or old square audi carriers, or try the g60 adaptors. space is tight though with 256mm brakes so you may have to grind stuff to squeeze it all in.

lots of other options as mentioend, vauxhall stuff goes on etc

I did a bit of searching and found another thread you replied to on ClubGTI (I think it was at least) with the part number and cars they came off.

I'm going to try and a find a set of those carriers and use the Polo GTI calipers. I still have the original brake hoses off the Polo, so hopefully they will fit onto the MK1. The brake lines are shot anyway so they are being replaced so should be easy enough to adapt them if needed.

Thanks guys.
