MK2 GTI 8v Engine Conversion

Post

Hi, I Am Doing A Conversion Which I Can See Hardly Anyone Has Done, Everyone Has Gone The 16v Route, Whereas I am Using A Mk2 Golf 8v GTI Engine. With The Engine I Have Recieved The ECU With The Engine Loom.

Firstly, I Have A 1978 Mk1 Golf 1.5 GLS Auto 5 Door. This Has The Older Style Fuse Box. Is It Better Or Eaiser To Change It To The Fuse Box Found In A 83' Mk1 Golf Or Can It Still Be Done With The Older Fuse Box.

Secondly, Could I Use A Complete, Mk1 Golf GTI Loom, And Would It Work Or Does It Have To Be A MK2 Loom.

Thirdly, My Car Is Or Was A Carburetor Car, So Could I Splice In The MK2 ECU And Use Most Of The Original Loom.

Could Someone Let Me Know The Best Or Easy Way To Do This. Thanks.

1. up to you, either way you'll need to do some messing with the ecu and/or engine wiring. if the old loom is in really nice condition then no reason to swap it

2. if you did want ce1 fusebox you'll need a complete mk1 gti loom front to back for the basics, then modify the engine loom to give the digifant ecu loom the feeds it needs

3. all you need from the mk2 is the ecu loom, this will drop into your engine bay and take care of the engine side of things. you need a mk1 or modified mk2 engine bay loom to run all the dash sensor wiring, wiper wiring etc plus couple feeds to get the ecu loom powered up
