Mk2 calipers 12mm or 20mm?

Post

Hi

I'm putting in mk2 239/20mm rotors and calipers in a mk1 '76. I see VW Heritage sells mk2 calipers which they claim work with either 12mm or 20mm rotors, however their part number only pairs with 12mm rotors on various part stores. According to ETKA there are two different types of calipers for the MK2, fitting 12mm or 20mm rotors. I'm abit confused by this, so wondering if anyone could confirm the correct part nr for the calipers with 20mm rotors?

Also, do the bolts and rubber hoses have to match the calipers or can I buy new MK1 spec? Thanks

I believe that they are using the thickness of the rotor in 20 or 12mm  which  is to tell  you that they will work on single rotors or Vented rotors.  The pads for the single of vented are different… say 81 base Golf non GTI, versus 83 GTI Vented rotor pads.

I don't know what new ones are worth, but they would be cheaper at a breakers with a quick hone, rebuild kit, and bleeder valve…..

if they are VWII then yes they work with either 12 or 20mm discs, just get the right pads to match.

VWII is all that came on later MK1 Golf 1.5-1.8, but MK2 had VWI on the 1.3 which only take 10mm discs

VWII have 'VWII'v cast into the outside, VWI are plain

Thanks for the replies, I didn't know the pads were different.

Still abit confusing why ETKA shows two types of calipers for either 12 or 20 mm rotors though. 1H0615124A and 1H0615123A are the ones VWheritage sells, but 1H0615123C and 1H0615124C apparently pairs with 20 mm rotors on various part stores..

1H0615123/4A is an older part number, C replaces it :)
