Post

Evening guys
As "Chewit" my Golf cabriolet has been converted to a 1.9tdi and I'm about ready to start driving it and carry on spending money on it i sent the log book of with the engine displacement and fuel type changed, it hasn't come back so i started googling it and gave them a ring, so they want prof of the engine, and some kind of engineers report so I'm thinking

Take it to a garage get them to confirm the engine no, the engine size and fuel type and check that its all been done correctly
Get it mot'd at the garage
Send both these documents
Add a letter explaining that the engine was purchased on eBay from a written of rear end collision car

and hope this cures it!? any info or tips guys?

Your plan sounds good, but each DVLA employee seems to work to different rules!!!!!

Time to play the DVLA lottery!

I wouldn't go to those lengths just yet.

I just sent off a letter i typed myself, with a made up garage name on headed paper, I stated that I changed the engine on blah blah date, using xxxx engine from xxxxx donor car. Certified it was done to a good standard after I inspected it etc.

V5 came straight back changed. .

Or just don't bother, and just declare the engine when you insure it.

hi, I`ve converted mine to tdi too…I had same issues so sent a copy of the receipt containing engine no. engine capacity and got the v5 back with no issues.
are you going to the AGM as it`d be good to see another tdi conversion ?

Been meaning to do this since i put an ABF in mine but 18 months later i still haven't got around to it….

Insurance are aware though which is the important part!
