Coilover springs, how much compression on the helper springs is too much

Post

So my MK1 golf was slammed too much by the previous owner, it has no droop in the rear and the springs were rusted like crazy.

I fitted some new ones today and adjusted the coilover height on the small helper spring - ride height is a bit higher now, not yet tried a drive. However, the helper springs on the rear are almost fully compressed. Bit concerning seeing them like that.

They're 8.2cm up the thread, wonder if I've over loaded them and made it worse. But short of buying more springs, not sure how to get a higher ride height on the car?

I think they are meant to be compressed, if they werent then they wouldnt be able to do their job.
