Rotor Arm / Fuel Pump Wiring

Just a couple of questions as I'm so close to getting the car started now except for the following:

1) Does anyone have a picture or can tell me what position the rotor arm needs to be at if the dizzy cap and HT leads exit out towards the front of the car?

2) I need to connect the bike fuel pump to an ignition live, I've fitted a K-Jet relay to slot 2 but need to locate "E/14" - is this a wire or pin in the back of the fuse box, if so any ideas what colour / where it is!? Any pictures would be brilliant!

Thanks!

The rotor arm should only fit one way and when timing up the engine there should be a little line through the circumference of the dizzy body where the cap sits over.

That line is for no 1.

Hope that helps?

except if you have an abf cap fitted and rotated dizzy so it faces forwards as per the RJ method, the rotor arm will be 180 degrees out from the mark ;)

but yes, put lead #1 where the rotor arm is pointing when the engien is at TDC, the rest in order 1342 anti-clockwise. some pics in my build thread which may help:

E/14 is pin 14, in the black plug E on the rear wiring harness. If yours is a carby mk1 golf its the only large sized empty pin in plug E. You can buy the pin new, or salvage oen out of a donor loom. Alternatively you can run your pump to the large spade 'N' with an inline fuse if that is easier for you (E14 and N are both pump live, but E/14 is fused and N is not)

is the kjet relay the type without a rev limiter? if so all is well. also how are you going to manage spark advance? if usign a kr ecu you could run the red/yellow wire from the ecu to D/13 on the fusebox (white plgu on the engien loom) this will then allow you to use a 67/80/167 relay which will be controlled by the ecu

Nice one cheers for the answers guys!

I'll be able to sort the rotor arm now thanks

I've literally just found the thread showing the layout of the rear of the fuse box so should now be able to connect to E/14. I'll just look to see how I can connect onto it, getting a new pin to fit into the plug I guess.

Tbh I'm not 100% sure whether the relay has a rev limiter or not.

I am using a KR ECU and also running ZX9R bike carbs (pic below).

So the red/yellow wire is for the fuel pump relay earth trigger that I need to run to pin D/13 which I could connect to the white plug on the engine loom, do you happen to know what colour wire that might be?

The black/yellow wire for the idle switch feed isn't needed, is that right?

you can get both styles of CE1 pins here, ref 3-1564 and 3-7970/10:
Terminals for Special Applications: Polevolt Ltd

farnel also stock them but you need to buy in bulk. as I say can use inline fuse in spade N, thats just a standard 9.5mm spade

do you have the part number for the relay? gsf sell both types. you'll soon find out when you drive it though I guess ;)

D/13 if its there would be pruple/black for a carb loom, or red/yellow for digifant or 16v

idle switch feed is not needed

awesome thanks I'll have to get some of those, did manage to wire the pump in to the fuse box but might as well do a proper job.

There wasn't a wire for D/13 but did manage to get a wire to that too. If it's not needed though I'll remove it.

Managed to get the engine cranking (first time in about 8/9 years! lol) along with fuel pressure however forgot to rotate the dizzy 180° so couldn't get her started. Also have a slight fuel leak on one of the chambers of the carbs so need to sort that also then hopefully………might get her started this weekend!?

for the fuel pump you either use a kjet 8v relay without limiter which is triggered from the rev counter signal, or you woudl use a 67/80/167 relay which is triggered via red/yellow wire to d/13 :)

I'd go with the D/13 trigger if you can, replacement fuel relays are easier to get and cheaper

OK so I'm getting a little confused! Haha

What I've done is run a wire from pin E/14 on the back of the fuse box straight to the bike pump which I've also grounded. I've also put a relay in slot 2 where there wasn't one before (as it was a carb model originally).
In doing this I do have petrol coming into the carbs.

What your saying is I should run a wire from pin D/13 on the back of the fuse box (and also connected to the red/yellow wire on the kr loom) to the pump and then also ground? Is this safer?
And then a relay in which slot?

Sorry for all the questions and confusion just want to make sure I get this bit right

e/14 is fuel pump power, this is fine. you can move on ;)

slot 2 is the fuel pump relay socket yers, which relay you need depends on how you set up your system.

1. use a kjet 8v fuel relay, without limiter. this requires no wiring from the ecu loom to d/13, as its triggered by the rev counter pulse to the fusebox from the coil

2. run the ecu red/yellow wire to D/13, then fit a 67, 80 or 167 fuel relay these are ecu triggered type.

either way you decide to go, the fuel pump wiring you have done to e/14 is correct and sorted ;)

Ah right I'm with you, thanks for the explanation.

Also thanks for all your help with the wiring side of things as I now finally have this………………..

Big thanks!!!
