02J shifter into mk1 with 02A shiftertower?

Hej Gents,

Just want your opinion on following matter.. Please share everything in mind..

I building a R32 golf mk1, and my first plan was to use the complete shifting system from a passat VR6 with a 02A gearbox. I mounted everything and fits nicely.

But then i fitted the exhaust and their is not must space for it around the 02A shifterbox. I then saw the 02J shifterbox was alot "thinner" and this will give me more space for exhaust and a better shift feeling, right?

So i found a 02J shifterbox with cable online that looks like the ends will fit onto my 02A shifter tower, can that even be possible or do i need a complete shiftertower from the 02J as well ??

If it is possible then will the gearshift be better at all? Or does all the improvement of the shifting lies in the 02J shitertower??

My problem is that no one in Denmark will sell a shiftertower without selling a complete gearbox

I don't know as ive never tried it,  but as I understand it and what I plan to do is,,    02j gearstick assy, and similar gearbox shifter in 02a box. I think someone on here has done some posts about issues with this.

Done o2j on my g60d golf, shifter tower was from a 00 Tdi golf as was the gearshifter, mounted the shifter cables in the exhaust tunnel ten times better than the o2a shifter
. You will need the o2j tower and an 02j shifter though,
