Here we go again!

It's that time of year for me again for getting the insurance on The "Rivage" done.

So Rang the usual guy's I've used over the years.

I asked like for like Basis, based on what my current insurer offered.

Heritage

£250.00 after telling them my current renewal price £228.18.

Lancaster Insurance

£207.76p  " " " £137.00.

Peter Best

£250.00 " " " £185.00.

Carole Nash

(Thought I'd give them a try).

No Quote.

Failed to call me at the time I asked for and at the time of writing still hasn't called me some 3 hours later.

So I called Adrian Flux on the off chance as they had been expensive over the last few years. But was suprised they came in at only £170.00.
I then explained my current insurance renewal price and they came back with an astounding £79.50.
On the Phone to my current insurer to ask if they could match or beat that price. They said no we can't.
I thought about this as my current insurers are very good, but we all need a good deal every now and then. So I called Flux back to take the policy out and check what I'm covered for only to find that if I want agreed Value it's a further £15.00 on top of the £79.50, thus making a total of £94.00.
But I'm miffed that I asked for a like for like quote and the Extra policy wasn't included in the total I was expecting to pay. Whilst I understand the Extra agreed is an add on and subject to their Valuation Teams agreement. I would of expected the total payable for comparison reasons to be £94.00.
I tried to explain to them it's at least misleading when I'm asking for like for like quotes that what I ask for should be taken into consideration in the final Total (if applicable). So explaining the example to them The Quote should of been either £79.50 Plus £15 if your'e accepted for agreed valuation. Or its £79.50 minus the £15.00 because the agreed value wasn't acceptable. Unless I'm confused somewhere along the way? It's been a long day of ringing and waiting to be called back.

So I'm staying with Peter S Taylor at Bishop Calway (01273) 820303/329307.

Where it's going to cost £103.00 with agreed value of £4,500.00.
So whilst AF were £8.50 cheaper (The cost of a couple big macs and a coffee or a couple pints of beer) I'm confident about staying with Bishops for my own peace of mind.

It was good to see Fluxy competitive even with the confusion as over the years they had been to expensive for me on both my cars.

Cheers

Chortle

I should add I used a "classic car insurance comparison website".

1) Performance Direct
£533.22.

2) Grove and Dean
£562.22.

3) Heritage
Sorry, we are unable to provide an online quote.
4)Footman James
Sorry, we are unable to provide an online quote.
5) Flux Direct
Sorry, we are unable to provide an online quote.
6) Lancaster Insurance
Sorry, we are unable to provide an online quote.
7)Barry Grainger
Sorry, we are unable to provide an online quote.
The above required a phone call to quote. So out 7 only 2 could quote and were way out of budget.

Just gone to Admiral on my multi car policy and with an agreed value of £10k  it works out at £80.

I think it was £120 but I get £40 off my other cars.

Delighted and anything to get away from A Flux as their service is diabolical !!!

To be fair I didn't try them nor have I been insured with them prior (as with Carole Nash). So I couldn't say what they would of been.

Prices vary wildly though, between companies and you only get a good deal once you tell them what you're renewal is. I wait until they quote, then tell them. It's amazing the before and after prices they charge but would of taken your money regardless..

I'd ring footman James as they couldn't quote me online but they were the best when I rung them.

Is that with a 100% standard/unmodified car?
I'm with Admiral for our other cars but they wouldn't cover the golf as it had too many mods. They also wouldn't do agreed value when I asked.

Up to you but worked out the best for me, classic car with mods on limited mileage.

I got an agreed value £6000 for £10 extra

Last renewal I moved from Heritage to Peter S Taylor at Bishop Calway. No complaints about Heritage, but the online quote from Peter S taylor was way better. When I rang to confirm and pay, the person on the phone was surprised how low it was, but as it was what was quoted online, he said they would honour the quote - really sounded like a human being rather than a script following call centre operator. And then you get proper paperwork in the post!

Difficult to compare as there's no prices from you daz, plus mine is standard nothing modded.

Some companies have different rates all the time. Adrian Flux told me the price they offered was for today. I quizzed it saying just give a ref number so if I want to take the policy I  could easy refer to it. When I pressed a little more I was told that companies alter there prices and what is offered now maybe gone tomorrow. Like in 24 hours? I was puzzled but was told they use a live market, so they search 200 companies to find the best deal.

Graham, Vicky etc at Bishops are great people. Partly because of their human touch convinced me to stay. Even for the sake of £8.50.  Having a chat with Graham, I was told that your Insurance company is obliged to notify you about 4 weeks before your policy lapses. I have heard of companies not following this rule which may actually coerce folks into a renewal due to time constraints of the policy running out.
