I'll have Miranda (my mk1 1.3 1982 5 door) on the road and ready at the end of april, i was going through insurance quotes and the cheapest for me is £2300 full comp. Now obviously i am 18, have a years no claims and will be using my mk1 (unfortunately) as a daily. Just wondered what insurance company's are best for me? I'v tryed adrian flux and have had no reply and no quote back off them. Will look into herts insurance soon. Any other suggestions? Thanks,
Corbyn.

Hi Corbyn, Really like your motor, looks smart. Best thing to do with Adrian Flux is give them a ring. Carole Nash, Lancaster could be other options. Unfortunately insurance for your age group is always gonna be a sore point . Its wrong! Hope you get it sorted dude
Chris
Thanks alot chris, and thanks for the feedback on my car, she'll be down at the mk1 owners meet and alot of other shows, so if you're going you'll see her there! Was looking through last years show pictures and there was no manilla green i could see! Was surprised!

As a 17 year old I got deflated by all of the crazy quotes I got, I'm going to stay on two wheels while waiting for them to become reasonable. Good luck with your search.
Thing is, only way they will become reasonable is by experience and no-claims bonus. The only way you can get that is by insuring your car at a stupid price. Gets less and less every year. My polo6n was 2800 third party, now i have a years no claims, the golf is going to be about 2200 fully comp.

Quite a few company's won't even quote 17 year olds so hitting 21 will help with the price as some classic insurers may quote as well, but that's no fun waiting

My first car was a 1.3 litre mk1 golf 15 years ago, although not in as nice condition as your one. Even 15 years ago it cost me over £1000 a year to insure, and that was the cheapest I could find at the time, so I'm not surprised you're getting quotes of over 2k. It's just the way things are these days I guess, if you want to drive it you've not got much choice.
However, I would definitely pursue Adrian Flux, they do tend to offer good prices for younger drivers.

Thanks for the positive comments on the car guess you're right though, is what it is i guess, i'll just have to pay a stupid price..

17/18 with any car is a joke now, as soon as you hit 21 you will see a drop and then again at 25. For reference I'm 24 and I pay £203 fully comp with all mods declared and 2 years NCB on my Mk1 limited mileage to 1500 but I can increase this for £50 to 3000 and 5000 respectively. Just get older and you'll be fine! I know how it feels when your that age and craving something you can have but can't afford to insure! It goes quicker than you think though…
Thats with Adrian Flux (I think they will only insure you if your over 21 though)

Also your signature is massive! Might be an idea to make it a little smaller

Tip: My daughter added my wife as a named driver and the total cost reduced by £300. TPFT isn't always the least expensive either. Try this and of course, the price comparison websites, buy a VW magazine and check the trade advertisers too, there's often a page specialising in young drivers (i.e. huge excess)

might be of some help if you haven't seen already
what's your cheapest as third party fire and theft?
on my 1.1 at 18 I had quotes of around 1200 third party fire and theft, 2000+ full comp.. first car with 0 ncb. halved in price when i turned 19, went with elephant third party fire and theft 10 month ncb accelerator policy through gocompare (620 including lowered) confused.com is pretty good too I think.
Just keep trying through all price comparison sites or directly through other insurers until you find the cheapest one, but you might have to think about going third party if you want it cheaper than 2000

I ended up getting my 1.3 and being insured with Elephant third party F&F for £1700
But the good news is it decreases right away, with my second year being £1000 and now im 21 and renewal in the summer comming up i have already found quotes for £500
I think you just have to bite the bullet and pay for it theres no way around it really which sucks!

Im 18 with now 1 years no claims. golf is a 1.3, Fully comp is £20 more than third party nearly everywhere i go, so theres no difference in that. Weird everyones mentioning elephant, i was with elephant on my vw polo, paid alot of money (was 17 at time and just passed), and now they're telling me that the golf is too 'old' and they cant insure it. been told that several times by them, so i have to look elsewhere. so far the cheapest is £2300 full comp. annoyed that it's still so high even with a years no claims, when all my friends are getting quotes for around £1000 for all there cars!
Tried specialist insurance companies and they're about as much good as a chocolate teapot. Useless, silly quotes ranging from £4000 + !
