Footman James wont insure me!

Post

I have been insured with admiral on my families policy since I started learning to drive and for the first year it was fairly cheap but the second year went up to £1200! So we stuck with that till late July when we cancelled it as the golf was off the road for a bit but now we have come to insure it again I wanted to be on a classic policy because I thought it would be cheaper and was lead to believe that they would insure under 25's but even before we mentioned modifications they said that they would not insure me and they wouldnt even insure me if I had been driving over a year :(

I know because of my age that insurance wont be cheap but ive heard of loads of people having cheaper insurance on their mk1 golfs or similarly aged cars at my sort of age. Where would be my best place to get insured? Ideally I would like to get cover today because I should have her running today if all goes to plan! I may have to just go onto my old policy again for a bit until we work something cheaper out. Please let me know where i should be looking!

Cheers,
Matt

Hi Matt, It can be tricky to get classic insurance when you're under 25.

Do a search on the forum as there was a thread about it a little while ago - I can't remember the answer but hopefully it's lurking in there!

I understand how hard it is for young drivers, my daughter is 21. Look on the comparison websites as you will have some NCB which will make a difference. I also hear that sainsbury supermarket insurance policy is quite good for young drivers, but can not remember where i heard it from.

I won't have any no claims as I've been a named driver the whole time unfortunately, but strangely my dad has just asked for a quote to stick me back on my admiral policy and the quoted £300 odd for the rest of the year which isn't bad but even better when you consider that a month ago they gave us £700 back for ending my policy    so might just stick with this until I'm older and can go on my own policy :)

Mazza

I look after the various club schemes at Footman James and I'm a bit confused about what you've been told.

It seems strange for us not be able to offer insurance for a young driver with a year's driving experience as our new schemes are set up that we can now usually offer cover for this.

Could you drop me an email to david.youngs@footmanjames.co.uk with your full name and postcode so I can have a look and make sure we've informed you correctly.

I appreciate you've now found cover elsewhere but it might help the next person!

I did think that it was a bit strange considering that you do hold under 25 classic policies.
Ill send you an email now,

Thanks,
Matt

Hope you Guys give each other a big hug and make up!

Dave I'd be asking myself how many years and how many Insurance polices I can win over from the Guy.
His Family.
His Friends.
This Club!
House.
Life.
whatever.
Et al…
(not trying to teach Chickens here)
Just wonder why on the scale of things more Insurance Companies don't look at the full picture.

Matt, your a very young (you lucky guy).
So for what it's worth, your going to have to bit the bullet at some point but I do understand that as a young driver you at a big disadvantage with the Companies.

You would have a cheaper policy if you were a 100 years old with average eye sight!  :$

Okay, off my soapbox.  ;)

Best of luck and drive carefully mate!

Ha Ha.  Thanks Mike! Lots of hugs all round!

Matt

I've received your email and have replied.

I can confirm that, if you had held your licence for 12 months, we WOULD be able to offer cover - subject to receiving details of and accepting your modifications.

Please give us another try once your current policy has expired.  You've got my email address now, do feel free to contact me directly and i'll arrange for someone to give you a call to discuss your requirements.

Well, when we spoke on the phone we stated that I had not been driving for a year at this point but would have been in september so asked if it would be possible and they still said no  O_o

Either way I am insured at a fair price and now know to try you guys when we come to renew next year

Thanks Dave
