help problems with my 1.1 carb

evening all having some trouble with my 1.1 carb for some reason the idle screw and mixture screw dont do anything at all, we have set the timing and points up correctley but neither of the screws do anything.

it is drivable but wont tick over and also the revs get high and then low and then stall.

help needed

check out your carb mount and gasket - cheap to replace,
check the earth from carb to block is intact and good connections,
check idle solenoid working properly

had similar prob with my 1.3 carb

more info in similar posts further down the page

good luck

what does the idle solenoid actually do

think it controls mixture getting into engine when no throttle applied ie controls fuel/air mixture in carb.

here's how i checked mine

should have feed from wiring loom, earthed via strap between top of carb ad fuel pump (make sure clean electrical connections.
check solenoid working by removing - if you place 12v circuit (positive spade, negative threaded housing) it should retract completely, replace if unsure if works as cheap,
check current and voltage from feed wire with multimeter to check not a deterioration of the loom like i had - had to reroute new feed.

if u remove solenoid and rest the metal case in contact with engine whilst wired up, solenoid should retract when ignition turned on, then if i remember correctly should pop in and out in relation to the rpm of the engine

check no air getting in carb/inlet gasket as this will prevent idling - too much wobble in carb ? usually gets worse when engine warms up.

Carb Are you sorted ?

We had exactly the same approx a  year or 2 back.

Check in this order
assuming it was all working + set up correctly before !)

1. Rust / particles in system - look at inline fuel filter.
2. Pilot jet poss. blocked  (opp. side to the CO + Idle)

Let us know what it was ?
