electronic ignition
Any help would be great.
Cheers
P.S. maybe more owners with small blocks would like to use this system, and are they any who already do?

In a bit more detail, I PM'd 0ddball about the conversion recently and got this back:
i did a quite detailed post about this on poloclub forum but unfortunately the site got hacked and everything older than this year was completely deleted. real pain.
the distributor came from a saab 900 2.0 16v. think it was about a E or F plate. it differed in that it had 3 "loops" around its edge, you know the bits that the bolts go through to fix the dizzy to the engine. so i had to chop one off, and manipulate the other 2 so i could twist the dizzy body to get the correct idle timing. this also meant that the vacuum bulb wanted to be right where the thermostat housing / temp senders are. so i just removed the vacuum bulb. still has the mechanical rpm advnce inside the distributor. vacuum advance is really only for part throttle economy anyway, its not missed.
yep dizzy has a hall sensor, which triggers the ignition amplifier in the base of the coil, and then the coil itself. completely stand alone system. off the top of my head all it required was an earth, live and switched live. also, because of the cavalier parts i used i had to solder the saab hall sensor plug onto the cavalier wire. ive been told that the late mk2 and early mk3 (MH engine is it ?) polo ignition system will plug straight into the saab hall sensor socket though.
you might be better off with the mid to late 80's seat ibiza sxi (the one with the 1.2 porsche managed engine) distributor if you are going fuel injection, its much more compact because it doesnt have mechanical advance inside it, and will bolt straight onto the HK engine.

a few people have done a electronic ignition conversion, using differing methods. will usually get the info you need if you post in the mechanical section.
Note: HK engines are early Mk2 model 1.3's, should still have the same/very similar mountings etc.
You could still use the Seat System Porsche setup for carbs, I was merely asking what was best in my situation converting the engine to run fuel injection.
Hope this helps!
James.

The Saab dizzy advance curse will be no where near and if you are going to that much hassle just have done with the whole lot and chuck megaspark on.
What's wrong with points though? Properly serviced, maintained and setup they will work just fine.

Right I can't recommend the pertronix (sp?) kit enough….It is so simple to install…and works like a dream……..And doesn't cost that much, about ?30.

You should be able to find all the information you need on their web site. It might me worth send them and email with your dizzy make and serial number and see which kit they recommend.

I completely forgot about those kits you can buy which retain the standard dizzy.
I had a glance through the rest of the South West Dubs forum (after looking at a bit of info regarding next years nurburgring trip ) and noticed that a fellow Mk1 owner had converted to electronic ignition on a small engined Mk1.
