New pads/discs

Looking at renewing pads/discs and in Haynes manual it shows three types of front discs: Teves, Girling and Kelsey-Hayes. Is it possible that any of these three could be fitted or do UK spec GTi's/Campaigns always use the same type?

Also, will the above affect in any way what pads/discs you order from someone like GSF?

Also need to look at my rear discs conversion for replacement. Is it fair chance they'd be off a MK2 Golf?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Andy

If you meant fitment of the discs, I think they are all the same!  :?

As for your rears, they are most probably Mk2 rears as this is the easiest and most common conversion.

It's the calipers/pads that I assume are different?

Yes, the discs are the same, but the calipers are different.

All Campaigns will have the Kelsey-Hayes calipers as they were fitted to the late Mk1 GTis. You can spot them easily as they are the banana shaped ones.

The rears are likely to be off a Mk2, but check the pads and anti-rattle springs carefully as there are different types. Mine are pre-88 16V.

Thank for info Rajan. If I order new ones will I need to specify the type or will I end up with the right ones anyway?

For the fronts you will be OK. For the rears any decent GSF will ask for the year and model. Best to have a look first, describe them on the phone and check when you pick them up.

check this out ! Fdb242 pads were fitted to Vented disk cars from 1979 to 1983 , non vented disks from the same years had the same pad But it was thicker !
Fdb392 were fitted to vented disk cars from early 1983 to about 1989 [not including the MK2 16v it had a different setup] non vented disks from the same years had the same pad but it was thicker ! The Fdb refers to the Ferodo brand but i am using it just to illustrate .
GSF list 3 different types of brake pads for the MK1: 64247a for the 1.1, 1.3 and diesel etc [its a small square type totally different to the pictures] :64286a/b for non vented disks :643138a/b for vented disks . Notice that the inner pad is always smaller , both my MK GTI,s have the Fdb392 GSF part number 64313 . Any one got any thing different out there ??
              Rear ones good luck

Actually there are 4 types of pad for Mk1s. Just as there are two thicknesses for late vented/non-vented discs and Kelsey-Hayes caliper, the square type pad has two thicknesses also. One for the early Teves caliper and one for the later Girling.
