MIM Wheels

I've got these MIM wheels on my car and since I've owned it one has been very slightly buckled.
You don't feel anything when driving and it handles fine but a few people driving along behind me have pointed it out.

Is it something that can be sorted or does it mean trying to find a new wheel?
If I need a new wheel where am I gonna find another one of these when I don't even knw what they are apart from MIM's?
Also would anybody have any idea what the centrecaps would look like for them? I quite like them as they are though to be honest.

Yo Andy

go to this link and look at the bottom of the displayed list (Wheel Repairs)….one of the firms/tel. Numbers should 'appen be able to help you.

I have used "Pristine Wheels" to have my 9 spokes refurbished a while back…they did a 10/10 job…arranged throgh my local tyre dealer.  Not sure if they can help with your buckled wheel but one of the others may

Hi there - they're MIM 2900's, popular in the mid/late 80's and more often seen on E30 shape BMW's. Actually, the 25 number that you can see on the casting is the ET. 25 is correct for an old 3-series. Not a problem on a Golf unless it's mega-lowered (many people look for really low ET wheels as they are deeper dished), although an ET of something like 38 would be perfect.
I had a v.similar set a couple of years back although the spokes were black on mine and the rim edges were polished.
I really like these wheels and a few manufacturers did similar ones in the 80's. They look like the Ronal's you find on some Audi's.
You should be able to find some small centre caps from specialist alloy wheel places. You can also buy MIM stickers for these, but the company logo has changed since the 80's to a much more modern version. Maybe old stock is available though ? The old stickers are exactly the same as the cast logo on the rim. The background is silver and the logo is black. The new logo is more 'high-tech' lettering with a kind of swoosh at the top and bottom (am I sad or what !). Just let me know if you need a pic of the centre caps
Cheers,
Mark

Thanks Mark

If you've got a picture of what the centre caps would look like I'd appreciate that!

Just seen these on ebay. I think they'd look sweet but don't know if they'd fit correctly?

Ooooh - They look very different!

At et12 though, I think you would have MAJOR problems with arch clearence!
They guy says in reply to one of the questions "I don't think they would stick out…". Sounds like he knows damn well they are gonna cause probs!

As for the MIMs you have… A friend of mine has them on his Mk1 too, but with Black between the spokes. One of his is buckled a bit too funnily enough.
We scoured the internet to find an original picture to have some centres made up though we could not find any

Thee are some very similar wheels from that era which had a fake "Nut" on a flat polised centre. Another set we found had centres similar to these…

Actually you're right, they'd suit a Mk2 more.
I will stick to the mims… just hope I can get the slight buckle sorted. Will look into it over the weekend.

Hi there,

Here's a pic of a set I had a while back that shows the centre cap pretty well :

And here is another set I had (the ones I was talking about previously) with a similar style RH alloy behind it :

If you do go down the route of putting centre caps on and can't find the old logo caps, I'll scan one of mine to scale so you can copy it. However, it will be a right pain to dig out, so please only say yes if you're stuck (!)

I think the alloys in Storm's link are Intra's. Hard to tell for sure though.

Cheers,

Mark
