jumping gear!

Hi guys if any1 out there can help me i would be forever grateful!!

Was given a Mk2 1.3 4 speed by a friend as they were told that it needed a new gearbox.

I have found out that i can fit a mk1 gearbox in it but i dont think it needs it. All driving gears are sound but the reverse jumps into 1st gear without any clunking or noise whatsoever.

Just wondering if anyone has heard of this happening b4 or if any1 has a working gearbox for sale

would be a shame to give up on the car as the bodywork is pristine
