Gearbox problems

Hey another problem has cropt up. My first longish drive on the motorway has proved a nice little test for the golf.  

Its now slipping out of 5th at motorway cruising speeds  

There is a rumble at tick over in neutral, which goes when you put your foot on the clutch (was thinking release bearing or at worse lay shaft).

It also has problems downshifting to 2nd and forth when driving hard.

As a cobination of gremlins I now think a new box and clutch is needed (or recon.)

What boxes (off what cars not part number please) will fit on my 82 1600?
Anybody got a suitable box for sale. What's the newest box without running cable shift?  :dontknow:

I've got a spare FD box.  Runs fine with no problems.  Currently in a car but swapping for a 9A as that is waht should be in a Campaign!

How many miles on your gearbox crazyquiff?
How much for the box? How much for postage as you are quite a drive away and thats a long time for me to hold it in fith!

Storm81- I've posted you a reply in for sale. Are you splitting the engine and box? :wink:

Box has unknown miles to be honest - not the original one (done 55K in this car)

Be looking for ?30 for the box - postage is probably in the ?20 region.

If you are interested give me a shout and I'll get a firm postage cost.

Sounds like a good option. I'll wait for storm81 to get back to me crazyquiff and see what sort of offer he can give me (and if he's any closer). Either way I'll keep you posted. Thanks for your help.

Check the oil level in your gearbox before you go any further.

Its definitely not the oil lhasa, wish it was.

Crazy I think I'm going to buy storm81 box as he says its got low miles on it. Thanks for the offer though  :y:
