Front brake binding mystery

Hi Hope you dont mind me droppping in for some help I have been on the forum for a while but dont post much

I have a mk1 gti with the 256 mm upgrade and the bigger master cylinder and servo

The front offside brake is binding slightly and causing the wheel to get hot, it stops dragging after its cooled down

the brake pads are obviousley not retracting enough when the pedal is released but its only on that one side

So far I have replaced the flexi hose( they can break down internally and act like a one way valve) no difference

Replaced the master cylinder in case one of the return valves is crapped up -no differnece

replumbed the master cylinder in case got it wrong first time- no difference

fiddled with the linkage to the servo in case its not retracting enough- no difference

now replaced the front caliper in case its siezed ( it was only a couple of thousand miles old but it stands around a lot)- no difference

Any other suggestions or ideas before I take it red faced to my local vw specialist and get "the look"

I could weep with frustration ( and the ?60 worth of bits wasted!)

Cheers

Chris

did you use a 16v master and servo? we had loads of trouble with front brakes binding on the last on we did, had to change servo again.

Are any of the metal lines to that wheel kinked or got an obstruction?  Try blowing them through

seemed to bleed ok and ive changed the flexi hose maybe worth a look

tbh im so annoyed Im tempted to rip the whole lot out and go back to standard but ive jnked the original servo and master cylinder and the litlle block that goes underneath ( damn never throw anything away)

the 256 m brakes are really good but its actually overservoed if i was doing it again id just do the brakes

Be interested to here of anyone else whose had similar problems with this conversion its pretty common

Cheers

Is the nut that holds the axle to the hub tight?  (I recently had one loosen, which killed the wheel bearing, and allowed the brake to drag on that side).  You might also want to double check that the caliper bolts are tight.
