Brake Bias Valve (advice)

Hi,

Im after some advise about brakes. I have got a 1.8 gti which needs the rear brake compensator replacing. What i want to know is would i be better off ditching it and getting a bias valve instead?

The car has been lowered considerably on a ajustable leda / koni / eibach setup and has Willwood 4pots and g60 280mm discs + a 16v servo and master cylinder.

I am right assuming that the bias valve does a similar job to the compensator?

All help is appreciated :-)

A bias valve allows you to manually adjust the front/rear brake balance. The load compensator valve does this too as part of its function (of course, its adjustment is much more difficult - you'd need to stop the car and using spanners adjust the thing at the back. The other job it does it automatically adjust/provide less braking to the rears during heavy braking, ie it prevents the rears locking up sooner.

So, they're not equivalent.

Also, if you used a bias valve, you'd need to change the dual circuit diagonal split to single circuit (or front/rear split), which is inherently less safe.

Or fit two bias valves! as I did for my track car, works a treat :D

Speeding is like masturbation, everyone does it ,but it's not something you should record and put on the internet!!

Yep,my car has been heavily stripped and as such the rear end is very light, and even with the compensator working I was locking rear brakes and entering corners backwards 8O .

So binned the compensator, fitted two bias valves in the lines to the rear brakes, have fitted them on the N/S inner wing under the bonnet, near where the battery used to be(Mine is now in the boot)I have reduced rear brake pressure by nearly 60%,still passes MoT and work's so much better on the track, majority of the work now being handled by the front brakes :D

which ones did you use please? How many PSI do they need to be . I need to remove the same rear load comp and use bias instead?
