5speed gear linkage adjustment

Ok all worked fine before engine removal  
Now had all new bushes and rods 
Tried the halfway along metal part and 19mm gap no joy any other tips .?

19mm gap is for four speed box - 14mm gap should sort it for the five speed.

Follow the Haynes manual with the setting up and make sure you have put all the brackets etc on right.

Suicide is now a option lol .!
I've tried…..
Making sure gear stick plate is central lining up with holes 
Adjusting gap under gears tick from 12-21 mm
Loosening all engine mounts 
Brand new bushes
Brand new linkage rods 
Adjusting gearstick plate 
Checking.rods are correct way round 
Greasing everything 

I can get 1-5 but not reverse .??

Hi,

I've modified my 1500 diesel 4-speed linkage to fit the 5-speed box and it has taken quite a bit of adjustment. At one point I had it up on the ramps six times in half an hour before it was right. The main problem is making sure you get the 1st/reverse gate exactly right.

I had most success putting the box in reverse from under the bonnet, then getting the lever where it should be, tightenening the clamp, and testing. It then needed a tweak of one spline either one way or the other to make sure that the 1st/reverse gate was right, and that 5th could be selected.

It also was a lot easier with new linkeage throughout.

In the past I've done same as our French correspondent, putting gearbox in reverse and then gear stick in reverse position and then tightening the clamp up that fits around the rod from the gear stick

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

Hi….did you find out what your problem was? I've been having similar issues with mine. I've got it now where I can get all 1-5 and reverse…but feels a little "crunchy".
Not as smooth as I hoped

Try this, and if you don't have a Cassette Case, you can use a set of allens as in 5mm and 10mm taped together to give you the 15mm you need Just don't tape the ends where you are measuring them as they would be off by how many wraps of tape you used.  :)

You sir, are a legend! That is exactly what I was looking for 👍🏼👍🏼
I had stripped it all out following the guide On here, but putting things back is never as easy! Haha 
I know it should be easy, but you start second guessing yourself when you can't get things working as they should.
I was going more for a 19mm gap, but I will try and dig out a cassette tape and Give this  a go tomorrow. hopefully get to enjoy some smooth gear changes over the weekend! 😂
