Oettinger Mk2

Post

I've got a bit distracted from my Mk1 over the last month after removing the cage and putting in a original interior after I managed to pick up an original Oettinger MK2 by pure chance.

I was wondering if anyone had any information on them? I know they made 25, 5 of those were sold in the uk through Scott's of Sloan Square. I have all the dealership paperwork that came with it, it has the geared cams, two piece sump and original Oettinger Stainless exhaust manifold.

It's currently having a full respray after a bit of engine work and new brakes etc as it had been sat in someone's back garden for 2 years. So will keep posting up progress pictures.

Like I said finding any information has been hard, VW UK hasn't even replied to me, Oettinger have no information on any of the early golfs they did apparently which I find strange. I'm on the MK2OC forum and again limited info so thought I'd try here. I've also checked everywhere and so far I haven't been able to find any of the others made apart from one in Germany but the only info I found on it was nearly 4 years old and then nothing.

Right now for some photos

Oh and one of my MK1 for good measure

Keep us updated on this and what you find out! 👍
Maybe some more pictures in a better light inside and out. 😉

What year was it registered because I used to deal with Scott's of Sloan Square back in the day! 😂

I know! I've got all the paperwork that came with it too! It's still in the body shop having everything done so will be exactly as it left the showroom/

I have ordered replica dealer plates and a new rear sticker for Scotts just to do that little bit extra with it.

It's a shame I can't find any more info on the models or any of the other 25 they made, hopefully it's not the last one left

Hi i have just bought a mk2 oettinger golf reg# g539mgk. Its not got the oettinger sump, manifold or cam cover but does have the badge on the back and the info plate on the under side of the bonnet and it goes like the clappers. Condition i would say 1/2 not quite perfect but not far off. 95k miles and i'm the 4th owner. I have been trying to research info and values of these cars but can't find much on them. Any input would be much appreciated.

My God, these cars are like buses.

You don't see one for ages and then a handful appear all at once! 😂👍

Right as far as I have been able to put together they did two different runs along with a Rallye. First wave was a small bumper model, had a different manifold and rocker cover and cams.

Second wave which was mine had a bored 1.8 engine, forged internals, larger inlet manifold, stainless exhaust manifold.

Come on post some pictures and we can try and put what we know together in the middle! This is exciting I've only found one other!

Hi
I own an Oettinger corrado, that was from scotts
Same engine as yours
Which is based on a Kr
It's official name is the Kr e2000 vs
Mine has a Kr rocker cover and inlet manifold
But has the oettinger sump, exhaust manifold ( it's a piece of artwork!) and is 1996cc with a 94.5 mm forged crank
Would have had around 185 bhp new!
Sounds great as the car has a super sprint system on it  too
Could you take some pics of the engine? I'd like to see if it's the same as mine, which is an '89

That's amazing! I heard they had made a couple of Corrados but it's nice to actually see one still around! Here is the only picture I have of my engine and also the spec sheet from Scott's on the engine!

Hi here are some images of my ottie. I have read that not all of them had the sump, rocker cover and manifold as mine doesn't. But i can tell it has the internals by the way the engine runs and sounds, also the plate on the under side of the bonnet has time adjustment specs on it. I believe the 1.8s were bored out to 1.9 aswell. 20170517_140750.jpg 20170517_140804.jpg 20170517_140811.jpg 20170517_140830.jpg 20170517_140658.jpg 20170517_140641.jpg 20170517_140601.jpg 20170517_140630.jpg

That does look like Mine! I know they did a 1.9, 2ltr, and apparently a 2.1. What you might find is that the 2 piece sump was broken and replaced with a standard one. One sure way of finding out more is remove the Inlet manifold and rocker cover and check the cams, they should be geared and not chain driven.

Ah this is exciting!

I have owned a few Oettinger Mk2 Golfs including the black G plate in the above picture. I sold it about seven or eight years ago to a very nice guy from just outside Manchester who I think was a joiner. I saw him with the car a few years back at VW Northwest in Tatton Park. That was a very nice mk2 but the engine is only a 1.8 (1800E) that has has been mildly tuned by Oettinger. It was still a very quick car and very tight too. This was one of the straightest Mk2 I've owned and it was a real pleasure to drive. I gave the owner a letter from Oettinger confirming the engine and I also gave him an original copy of a Oettiger brochure that showed the power and cost of each conversion. The 2000E was the most powerful approved VW 16v 2ltr engine conversion and it was based on a KR engine. The later models like yours did not have the fancy inlet manifold but the original manifold was modified internally. There is a Oettinger owners club website but it's very quiet and can take months to get a reply but they are very knowledgeable. I should have some pictures of the black G plate one on an old computer at home including ones taken before I purchased it. I have a copy of the Oettinger brochure from 1989 somewhere too. Hope this info helps.

I owned this one too and sold it to Karl (DD) as I just wanted to concentrate on my Mk1's after becoming a father to two boys. This was a 2000E with a huge list of optional extras including a beautiful black leather recaro interior. This was a car that Scott's of Sloan Square had on display at the 1989 motorshow.
