Corrado VR6

Post

As much as I've loved using my 2.0 16v Corrado for the last 5 months as a daily driver, I always felt that it lacked a couple of cylinders!

Problem taken care of, here's a pic of picking up the new daily-mobile at the seller's place near Leeds today.

It drives beautifully. Had a full engine rebuild a few thousand miles ago, new clutch, new heater matrix (all the bits you'd expect needed doing.) It needs a little paint but overall I'm well pleased with it :)

It's nice to have 6 cylinders back in my life!

Your making me miss my Corrado now.

 Lovely car and colour.  :)

A vr6 would be my next choice after having a G60.

Cheers Rich - I didn't realise you got rid of yours!!

My old Golf VR was up for sale a few months ago with the friend my brother sold it to. I wanted to buy it back but sadly they'd let it deteriorate and it had got really rusty :(

Loving having a 'six' back in my life.  I think I'll have to fit a BMC CDA at some point soon ;)

The corrado was a car I paid no attention to for years, despite the acutely critical jezza even stating that this was the nearest you get to a Ferrari, short if buying a Ferrari!

Then I drove the G60 from Glasgow to Peterborough and back  :o. I was astounded at what on paper was similar to the golf, but the overall package added up to something quite remarkable indeed. I had a friend that had his one owner vr trade in for an alfa, I almost purchased thus one, but too few £pounds and too many kids meant I missed out. But the experience of both has left a long lasting effect that makes me slightly envious of every single corrado driver I see.
Nice purchase, I hope it serves you well  I guess the hunt is on for one of those schrik inlet systems then?

I was the same really Craig, in that I never gave them a second look and was pleasantly surprised when I first drove one last year.

Nope, no Schrik for me - I'm a bit of a standard geek but may fit a BMC CDA induction kit at some point for a bit of 'Roooaaarr!'

Some more pics for the hell of it!;

Just come off Piston Heads looking at theses and now saw your post - bit of a coincidence!

Would like to persuade Ann to change her Streetka for a Corrado  but she is so attached to it might be a bit tricky.

I remember when the VR6 was launched, the local dealer had my Mk1 for a display in the showroom and gave me one day and a Sportline For the next.  The sound they made was beautiful.

Lovely car Andy. The Corrado was the car I first passed the 150mph barrier in, only as a passenger though   Still an awesome experience for a young lad.

Good choice Andy, nice to see yours has the quite rare centre VDO gauges too! Lovely colour.

After the induction kit the one thing I would greatly reccomend is an upgrade to the late mk3 vr6 288mm discs and calipers. Compared to the standard VR ones which are essentially redrilled G60 discs they've got about 40% more surface area and it really sharpens up the braking.

Thanks for the comments, it is such a nice car, I love it!

Nosmonkey - I'd never seen these gauges before so that was a pleasant surprise. The previous owner put 288s on so that's sorted ;) I haven't had to stop in a hurry yet but the brakes do feel very good indeed.

The P/O has a 21 page thread on the car/engine rebuild so it was nice to go through it and see it had all been done properly. There's some pics of the car on some BBSs I'd not seen before - looked stunning!!

Looks like it's been treated well so hopefully shouldn't be wanting for anything.

However it's a 'rado so usually that's not the case
