69 chinchilla grey beetle

Back again with another car. 

69 chinchilla grey beetle, pretty much stock. Very different to my last car, but nice to be back in something small and friendly looking. 

Very nice, I was lusting after an ultra basic orange 1973 Sparkafer on ebay last week. 34hp, small rear lights with no reverse light, early front wings with horn trims, no chrome trim on rear side windows, small bumpers, no rear window vent, no radio or arial ever fitted, no roof lining on rear quarters, rubber floor covering, black vinyl seats, rear looked like it had never been sat on, bizarrely front seats replaced with early MK2 Golf GTI items otherwise totally original with near 40 year and 70,000 mile patina

Slightly off topic, but how do you find your timber garage? How big is it? Reason I ask is that I could really do with building a garage (converting the existing one) and have been looking at timber ones as opposed to a block build one.

Yeah I can set up my little gym area, as well as having a car in here now… plus I'm far more comfortable working on old vws than I was the fury. 

Fixed a dodgy earth on the beetle today, just a bad earth. 

Garage is 7x4m bud, very cold in the winter, sweltering in the summer… but it does me fine. 😂

 Kingspan insulation or even the cheaper thermal silver bubble wrap stuff will help keep it cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.

I've kingspan my shed and it's made a big difference and I thermal bubble wrapped my wife shed and than made a difference but not as good as the kingspan.

Being silver foil it also reflex a lot of light.

I've priced up insulating it and boarding it out many many times over the years.  


Then I cut and run, and decide I don't need too when it all tots up.  

So the plan was to keep this stock, for once in my life I didn't want to slam it and make it rubbish to drive!! 


 Well, that was Monday/Tuesdays plan anyway. 


Just ordered a 4" narrowed beam, 2" drop plates and all the necessary gubbins to make it look broken. 

Whoops. 

               

Had a delivery today, Friday is playtime. 

Stuff broke. I'm broken. It's half done…. I need a cuddle.

So I had to raise the tank 30mm as it hit the track rods. Finally got it back together, and no more fuel leak. 

Even wired in a stereo.
