1989 Ford Escort RS Turbo - 21k miles!!

So this is our latest purchase. 21,000 miles and it's not been on the road since 1991!!

I could spend all day just sitting in this making brrmmmm noises, leave alone drive it! lol

…It's a pre-face lift car with some facelift features. It's going to get a sympathetic re-commissioning but will remain mostly as-is.

Mates dad had a succession of sporty Escorts starting with a red XR3 and a RS 1600i ending up with a white turbo.

Anyway his mother took us all to school each morning in her Granada Estate Ghia automatic which one day was in the garage for repairs so we all piled in to the sporty Escort as a replacement lift (think it was the 1600i by then). She manoeuvred around the yard and sank her foot into the carpet like she usually did in her Granny expecting the slush box to gently gather speed but the Escort launched forward shooting straight out of the gateway and across the road. Glad nothing was coming down the hill…..

That's lovely andy. Had one when I was 20, ran like a horrible bag of scanners most of the time, but great fun when it worked

I've only got white in stock at the moment! That's not been intentional though  

The car has received a little more attention in this last week. At last the umpteen years of storage dust got washed off - this car really shines now!





It still needs a clay and polish for good measure, but shouldn't need much work at all.

The engine bay clean and detail is almost done;



We've also had a new, Cat I alarm/immobiliser installed and found the source of a non-operative wing mirror to be down to a loose plug connection.

At present the metering head is being stripped due to an air leak at the main gasket - a result we're sure of the car having been sat for so many years. After that we can finish the detail and get it up for sale.

Proper nice that is Andy. What sort of money is it going up for? PM me if you like. 

Wow, i really love these, my old next door neighbour had one the same year as this but an XR3i convertable, i know it's not the same but still a lovely car!

Looks really good condition. Nice one.
Don't forget though, not as fast, not as much power and slower to 60mph than a GTI 16v.( Sorry….had to say it, I'm from that era…! )
