Went to look at a car last Saturday, I had virtually bought it from the photo's but after a good look round I bit the bullet. I was hoping to wash it and take some pictures last Sunday but the weather didn't permit so I was going to do it this weekend. I looks like the weather still won't permit so I'm going to post a few pictures the seller sent to me. I comes with a fair amount of history, original service book with dealer stamp and original rear dealer plate. It also has a stack of receipts etc. The car is also very original, I think all of the trim is present, the interior is good apart from drivers seat bolster.
The car has been off the road since 2008 so needs a few jobs doing to re-commission including a fuel tank and will hopefully be a good rolling resto car for a few years. It also has a few patches on the bodywork, rear off side arch, door bottoms and a couple of other small areas. Maybe I'll have a full resto done on it in time, we'll just have to see!

Thanks

I do believe the paint to be original. The scuttle below the windscreen has had paint at some point, the sills have been replaced  and painted (with an additional patch on each sill with underseal :| ) and possibly the front panel has had paint.

I've been a bit slack with updates and the Golf has kept me occupied for some time now (along with others things and normal day to day life!).

After some blood, sweat no tears but some shouting and a lot of swearing the car now moves on it's own steam! I've taken it for a small and unofficial drive up and down the road and I have to say it's not a bad drive! The brakes are something to be desired but they work and I think there may be some adjustment needed and the front discs, pads and callipers are new so they need bedding in. It still doesn't run 100% but it's been a non runner since 2008 and I'm sure a good drive to stretch it's legs will help it no end!

I'm not quite there yet, I have a few jobs to do for the mot and every thing I've started so far has opened a can of worms and I'm sure there's a few more unopened cans ahead of me but there is a light at the end of the tunnel!

Hopefully the weather will allow me to get it out of the garage for a wash and polish and maybe open a couple more cans of worms!

Hopefully some pictures to follow this weekend!

Many thanks to those who've helped me so far, it's much appreciated!

Looks great, nice repair to the seat belt mount, can't even tell it's been done.

Thanks Chris, the photo does the repair justice mind, if you look closely you can see it. I had to do quite a bit of welding to the drivers rear wheel arch tub, the seatbelt mount was the one I dreaded the most yet it turned out to be one of the easier ones and the one I'm happiest with!

I still have a few jobs to do before mot time but I'm getting there slowly!

Thanks mate, I'm well pleased with it. Some of my other repairs weren't so pretty so I didn't show them  ;) ! They are under the rear quarter though so looks weren't quite so important!

😂
It's going to be 27 here today which all sounds nice but if you don't own a garage it's a big problem. 👎
Because it heats up so early that if you haven't finished washing the car by 9 at the latest you're pretty well screwed!  😱

Not to mention all the other jobs like polishing etc…

For the next three months your can only work from 6-10 and that's it, so not as great as it sounds! 😕

I've been a bit slack with updates lately, mainly because I haven't done anything major and partly because I've been ironing out issues caused by neglect, poor workmanship and sitting in a garage for more than seven years! Last weekend I replaced the engine mounts and while it was in bits I decided to paint the rocker cover and timing belt cover!
Here's a few pics!!! IMG_5919.JPG

Engine mount on the timing belt end was well shot! The others looked ok but I changed them anyway!

Hi Saulty

Lovely job on the seat belt mount!  I am about to tackle the very same job - as a novice welder as well!  Any tips on how you tackled it to get such a good finish - you cant even see your weld!!!.
