My old white cabby

Hi all

my cabby has been in bits since 1998 and this weekend i fanaly decided to start putting it back together

bought an 89 gti cabby for a doner car and i will be stripping it and cleaning/painting everything as i swap it over

as you can imagine the list of part i need ohh and want is getting bigger the longer i sit at my pc

here it was before it got taken to pieces



this is how its sitting today

looks good mate, how come youve had if off the road for so long dont look too bad in the "now" pictures

Wow I thought mine had been off the road a long time!! Looks tidy still though and I like the interior.

How long before it's on the road do you think?

yeah what is the story of it, deffinatly dosent look to bad a condition

ps if you ever decide to sell your interior can i have 1st dibs

the reason its in pieces is I decided to upgrade from the 180 bhp 2.0 16v engine that was in it to a 225 1.8 T engine

so I striped it and fitted the 1.8 turbo engine it needed wiring and plumbing in

then we had a death in the family and we had to move house and I needed cash as a deposit for the house as the car was in bits I could not sell it so I pulled all the valuable bits of of it and sold them

then the wife only went and got pregnant

Life does get in the way sometimes of builds, but that's the priority of things, glad all on an even keel now

next weekend I am taking out the engine from my doner  car I have also stripped most of the wiring loom from it as well so I am making some progress

Wat mirrors are they... look interesting.... noice ride

Mirrors look like Sebring/sports cup stylee, Bought a set in worthersee many years ago, never fitted them .

yeah the mirrors are made by sebring

I have the original boxes still they was rare when I bought them 15 years ago

the come with 2 types of bases and the ones on my car are the better ones  

My next issue is what wheels to keep
I want black centres and stainless dishes which I have already 15 inch they just need building

Then the other set turned up 16 inch fully polished if I keep them like I said I want black and stainless it would be a shame to powder coat over a polished finish

i checked when my mot ran out on the car it was in 2008 its criminal that it has been locked away that long with no engine the dicision has been made i am going to keep the 16" rs's

so the 15" wheels will go up for sale when i have built them up

due to running adapters on the 16" i can fit the new brakes i have ordered from tech 53
