my mk1 project (finished)

Hi just joined the site and promised a cpl of pics of the mk1 I rebuilt. I used to be in the car scene around 20 yrs ago but family and house commitments kinda took priority for a while,  after seeing my 2 girls grow up and both start driving Golfs though (mk2 GTI and Mk4 anniversary) the bug bit me again so was on the look for a mk1 as I had one back in the day and have stuck with VAG ever since, found this kinda beat up slightly rusty orange one going cheapish, already had the 16v conversion done to a fashion ! so bought it, drove it 3 times and got started ripping it down to bare bones including spending 2 weeks stripping underseal (bleeding hands lol).
I don't have a weld set and wanted a good job done so found a local bodyshop willing to take it on, after 6 weeks in the shop I got it back in Candy white as a bare shell, the next 18months was spent putting the beasty back together using oem bits where possible and powdercoated, replated / painted parts and lashing of stainless nuts bolts fuel lines etc, anyway here's the pics, I'm well pleased with it and drive it as much as possible, but not in the wet lol.
Cheers, Simon

At the bodyshop getting love and attention

Back at home in the garage and the rebuild starts

Painted the steering rack and 9" servo, new 22mm master cylinder

280mm Zimmerman discs up front with stainless H&R coilys as they're subtle in colour and perform well

2" Jetex system with flex section up front

Didn't rebuild the engine as it wasn't smoking so just did the cambelt, crank seals, head gasket new injectors and painted / polished it up

managed to get hold of some straight RM's, got podercoated in white the slightly wider lip, rims are now 7" up front and 7.5" rears, just flush with arches

cpl of finished car pics

Thanks to Richievr for this pic !

and a cpl of the JL Audio Ice install, umm'd and arr'd for ages about front speaker location but managed to slip the mid ranges in the footwells and they sound really good to be fair, closish to the throttle peddle but not too close

Anyway that's it up to date, was worried a cpl of times during the build that I'd bitten off more than I could chew as I'm out of practice with cars but I'm  pleased with how it's turned out.

Cheers

Hi Simon and a very warm welcome,

I'm not a MOD guy but when I see one as good as that I get a tingle!

You can't see me but I'm tipping my hat to you (well that's if I had one)

The car looks fantastic and my word, you must feel good behind the wheel or just standing by it!  :ocf_emoticons__eusa_clap:  :ocf_emoticons__eusa_clap:  :ocf_emoticons__eusa_clap:

Thanks golfcabrio, the cars been on the road around 2 years now and I'm out in it whenever the weather's good, it's always a dilemma how to approach the styling but I didn't want it too modified, wanted the factory look with a few additions and got a thing about white cars so pleased with the result, must admit I do get a craving for something a little more wild occasionally though lol, I can see another project coming on !.
Thanks again
