First mk1 project, drivable, fast and fun!
After a warm welcome ind the newbie chat i’ve decided to start my build threat in this forum.
Just a little backstory:
I previously was in the aircooled society with my old bug. But after almost 10 years the aircooled society and cars seemed to bore me, it was all about originality and I was always looked bad at and most people (Old) shake their heads at my custom bug. So I sold the car to Germany, where people loved custom bugs, a sad day, since I put a lot of work hours in the car and had a lot of fun with it.
Then I needed a new project. I was sure it had to be VW, but not air-cooled, I looked a lot after a T3 vanagon, but all of them was either too expensive or to rusty (Or both) J I then watch a lot of nice looking golf mk1 and completely felt In love with them, in special the 5 door version. The 5dr version is also very useful, since a have a 10-month-old son and the car should be used for family trips also J
So I focused on finding a cheap 5dr golf, and after a lot of different cars I found this one in Poland. Delivered to Denmark (where I live) the car cost me 700£. OK price I think, what about you ?
The next step is to strip down the car and a good clean down to get a view over the rust and what body panels I need.
More to follow.
Oh and sorry about my language, English isn't my first language.

I also love the Passat Wagon …..it seems a shame to use it for parts.
Why not keep both?

GTI_Jim: the Passat is a really cool wagon, but it is to expensive to get on the road, a lot of taxes and a lot of rust underneath. plus I already have one stationcar. (A4)
You don't need 2 Wagons…
The VR swop in Mk1's is becoming more popular, I know of 2 or 3 build threads in the Projects section if you have a look.

After a good clean with the steam gun I decided to strip the car completly, there is simply must more rust than I thought (Off course) My plan is to make a frame to spin the car around so Rust repair is easy
Try fitted the VR6 brakes:
In the rear the spindle bolt right on! Very nice
Front I think the easiest way to fit the brakes is to use the Passat lower Balljoint and custom fit it onto the golf 1 trailing arm (Right word for the lower suspension arm)
Any other ideas? Maybe someone have done this before?
Next up: Engine out, Seats and carpet out, I think I leave the instrument in for now.
Anyone in need of a good running 1.1 engine and 4 speed transmission ? IS it even possible to sell ?

2 complete rear arches.
Left rear chassis and rear axel mount.
Tank filler cap repair
Spare wheel housing repair
Both chassis legs in bottom front.
I Acutally have a question, don't know if anybody read this, but here it goes:
On my repair on the front pillar, were the mount are, there is also mount for the front fender. and original the bolt are some special ones (dont know the name in english) put they look like they could be used in wood
What if i decided to weld in some 5mm nuts on the inside og the frame and then mount the fendres with 5mm bolts instead. Do any of you se a problem with that ? 5mm bolt are easier to find and comes in much pretty design
