The work so far..

Hi all, so the bodyshop finally took the golf in! Mechanically she's pretty good but the body is pretty rough, here are the pics of the strip down so far.  Luckily the interior is complete and undamaged, even the drivers seat cloth isn't worn or damaged on the side bolster, just need new seat base foam for the front seats, and it's the brown interior so super rare!  20211112_161324.jpg 20211112_161331.jpg 20211112_161334.jpg 20211112_161343.jpg 20211112_161351.jpg 20211112_161356.jpg 20211112_161400.jpg 20211112_162430.jpg 20211120_123719.jpg 20211120_123732.jpg 20211120_123751.jpg 20211120_123815.jpg 20211120_123833.jpg 20211120_123838.jpg 20211120_123918.jpg 20211120_123941.jpg 20211120_123950.jpg

Looks very solid really just patches required rather than entire panels.

I'd remove the interior, wrap it and keep it safe before it gets covered in oil, dirt, sparks, fag burns, foot prints that garages add as freebies

1983 Mars Red 1.8 Golf GTI
1987 Alpine White 1.8 Clipper Cabriolet

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

I have the interior in my garage, only the drivers seat in the car as i had to drive it to the body shop. The back end is worse than the rest, it's had the rear arches replaced but the paint is bubbling so don't know how bad it is until they grind off the paint and filler. Also the inner rear wheel wells are screwed, rust holes all around the rear seat belt mounts, and those parts aren't available any more so they will be fabricating those parts. Hopefully they don't find much else!!

Reminds me of my own 1.5GL restoration, keep nibbling at the mountain and you will eventually get it done.
