Head gasket question

Post

Hi folks ,  I’m changing the cylinder head on my g60 engine and I’ve ordered the gasket and new bolts and they’ll arrive whenever My question is did I need to fit a new gasket ? The exhaust manifold bolts wouldn’t tighten ,threads are gone on two of them and I had a spare ported and polished head . So I’m fitting that . Thanks folks

Head gasket question

Head gaskets cannot be refitted. Always fit a new one. This is because they are considered in the torque setting on the head bolts as it compresses/deforms to fire the specific engine. Don’t worry you have not wasted any money

Head gasket question

Cheers man, it was more curiosity than anything else . What’s another €100 in the grand scheme of things . Maybe you could answer another head gasket question ? I took the head from another spare engine I had which has a 2litre AAC block from transporter. I had planned on fitting it  but I just assembled it and it was on the engine stand. Now I bought a new head gasket and bearings etc . Would I be able to reuse that h/g ? The engine was never used / started up. Thanks again

Head gasket question

Issue is risk. It might work but what the cost of starting it up and getting low compression, oil leak or pressurised earlier system etc. Time and fluids + head bolts again not worth the risk.
