Although my paint work was not terrible, every single panel had dents/defects and the dreaded surface rust was bubbling through in a few places.

Stripped the car back to see what body work needed

I'm amazed at what we found, there is not a single hole or any rot whatsoever which is unheard-of. This must be one of the very few that have never seen a mig welder.

I'm very happy and yes okay it was worth paying extra for the car

Today's update is the cars in primer so should not be too much longer before paints on and can put it back together.

I'm missing driving it terribly

Nice, so close yet so far!

Hopefully it'll be a quick job at the painters and not one of these 4 year jobs

Glass is not out, windscreen is removed as there was  surface rust.

All rubbers are in great condition and there is no rust behind them so decided to leave it in. The painters have a beading that goes round the rubbers to holds it up while they paint behind.

I just agreed with them really leaving it in was best option

They have had it since 10th January so fingers crossed it is not much longer. There were small dents, bubbling and scratches everywhere so they have had to take it almost to bare metal. When I saw it in primer it was as smooth as a baby's bum

It came back in 1 piece put back together and I'm pretty pleased. It's never going to be priStine perfect example but I'd be scared to drive it if it was. I'm happy as a really tidy daily driver

Took a bit longer than planned as the cylinder head was sent away to be reconditioned as tappets were a bit noisy and valve stem seals were not their best. Also the seats were sent away to be recovered in original fabric, was done by Bielawskis trimmers in sheffield who did a grand job for the price of £80 per seat but I did pay for material on top from vw heritage and summat stupid like £45 a meter  :( (Still traumatised) :'(
