1987 Mk1 Cab

I finally put some hours in on my Golf over the last few days after inheriting the car a few years ago… Anyway, it had a horrible aftermarket kit on it that was only held on with some rivets and some silicone, lovely:

Was a bit awkward to remove but managed it with a budget DeWalt 18V drill and an extra pair of hands:

As it stands now I have removed the hood and much of the interior as it will be getting a lick of paint:

She looks a little sorry for herself at the moment but anything is better than the bumpers that it had on.
Strangely we came across 6 hair curlers (see a selection below),  I have no idea why a Cabby would have implements such as hair curlers in it…

Also found some old Wrigley's chewing gum (still smells quite minty), a receipt from 1996 when fuel was a lot cheaper and half of a love letter to a man named David.

Hoping to crack on over the next few month's and plan to chip away as and when time permits!

Hi,

I have a few plans, tore the hood slightly and cried a bit because it was the best part of the car (minus the lining which was torn), so am going to purchase a mohair this week, not planning on staying black though… Going to try and replace the parts that are missing or have been changed with originals, have a few items on way from ebay and the like.

Was hoping to fit a clipper kit and have sourced one but am concerned that as mine came with the smaller bumpers it may be a little fiddly to fit?

Also on the lookout for some nice wheels but I am putting that on hold until I have had it painted (staying white).

And the Salmon Ford Ka certainly isn't mine…

You could always source a full clipper kit with big bumpers on ebay pretty cheap, people are always removing them from cabbys, personally i think cabbys look better with the kit than without. Good luck with the build.

89Clipper - thanks! I haven't come across that one yet but have been looking, I will put that on my watch list, very much appreciated.

Hi Woody, I am from Elmtree but now reside in a dark horrible village a little up the road…

Jeeez, time capsule… PK chewy, can you still get that? Buying just £2.50 petrol and actually writing to people on bits of paper with a pen.

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

Now that's a good looking clipper! Spot on with the red roof, lowered just the right amout and the chrome grille ties in beautifullly with the polished bbs. I shall be defo watching the progress, :D

I am glad that my taste isn't as acquired as I thought, when I mention a red hood on a white Cab people seem to cringe… Off topic slightly, I love your Cab, especially the wheels, very nice.

yeah it's funny what you find the other week when I pulled the rear 1/4 cards off before it went for the welding I found a matchbox car and an undeveloped kodak film with something about the 1988 olympics on it's box. So which dark village are you in ??

You should develop it, could be interesting… I am now in a village called Stillington  :( … The house is up for sale though, the dog has outgrown the newbuild miniature garden.

yeah I know stilly the new builds up there are alittle small and it's abit out the way but some decent pubs in the area. Was toying with getting it developed might be abit of vintage porn ;) the car spent most of it's life in saltburn so my luck it'll naff shots of the rubbish old pier !!

Yeah the house itself is actually OK, just the garden is small and the drive is awkward, hence the Cab is elsewhere at the moment. You never know it could be well worth getting developed... Like you said, could even be something along them lines and could be worth something to some sort of vintage adult collector.

Yeah I rang him last week, I was going to go down the 20VT route but he kinda talked me out of it... Thinking to go ABF so I am popping down for a chat. Need the other Andy to have a look at the numerous alarms etc that has been wired in over the years (heard rave reviews about him).
