Golf 1 beginner car?

Hello lads
Next year I can get my drivers license for a car and I want to get a ml1 golf as my first car .
Im ok with spending time and money on the car
And I’m pretty handy in the garage and don’t mind getting dirty. Do you guys think it’s a good idea because .I’m still thinking between a golf 1 or a 5th gen Honda Prelude

(PS I don’t want a crazy build . I want to lower it and get some nice wheels that’s all the ‘aftermarket’ mods I want to do to it )
