Post

Hi,  just joined and I am from the the South East of the UK. I am a new owner of a South African 2009 CITI Golf MK1 Limited Edition (Number 459 of 1000) which was bought via eBay recently. (Only 10K Miles on the clock) I grew up in Cape Town so spent many years around the CITI Golf's and love them but have lived back in the UK since 1998 and have owned many classic VW's since but never a Mk1 so looking forward to it. Just saying hello! My MK1 looks exactly like the one below. volkswagen-citi-mk1-limited-edition-2009-307800.jpg

Nice car.
It is incredible that the Mk1 was still in production in South Africa in 2009!
What is the fitted engine type and size? Were there or are there lots of them in SA?
Make sure you rust proof it :thumbs:as the UK salted roads will play havoc with it here.
Enjoy.

Shame they only made 4 doors, maybe more imports if 2 door were available..but nothing wrong with 4..

They ceased production in 2009 after 25 years with around 250,000 Mk1 CITI Golfs sold. It is the 1.6i Fuel injection engine. 99hp (74KW). Rust Proofing is on the cards. Thanks

The 4 door is great. There would be more imports if they were easier to register over here and comply with EU standards etc, it is what stopped them eventually from being made I believe, that and safety standards. The 4 Door CITI Golf is why the South African people love it, it is literally the most loved car over there, everyone at some point had one or has memories of one or knows someone who still has one. It has become a really loved car over the last 25 years. Glad to own one of the last ever made and with an airbag and remote central locking as well. haha.
