Intro - first post

Hi everyone,
I'm finding myself in need of a return to the golden days of motoring when cars were cars, boys were boys and girls didn't play football or, if they did, it was never talked about.

I'm looking for a clean, not messed about with Mk1 Golf (not GTI, not cabriolet).  The problem for me is that having actually restored rusty cars when I was a lad, I know that rust will, unless something very different is done, always come back and this bothers me a lot.  So that's why I am looking for a different approach and I understand it will cost me.

I have researched e-coating and that might be an option - I really like the fundamental benefit of e-coating because it will seal every part of the bodywork, even inside hidden cavities such as corner pillars and hard to reach places, etc.  However, even then, getting a good clean original car, not messed about with, is key.  A bit of rust is unavoidable but I would much prefer to see it so I know the scope of the problem instead of having it hidden under filler and paint.  Therefore, I'm looking for that difficult to find Mk 1.  I guess everyone else is too!?

Another thought I had was that I have seen Mini Heritage offering brand new Mini shells from OEM body panels, floor pans, etc.  Very expensive, by the way.   I haven't seen such a thing available for Mk1 Golfs.  Or maybe there is specialist out there that can source all the parts and build a shell?

Any info would be appreciated.

Cheers

Welcome along.

Looking for the Unicorn eh?

I'm sure there are some out there, somewhere.

Good luck with the hunt.

I was quite lucky with mine as it only had a few minor holes plus the requirement for a complete new rear panel of course!
