Hi , welcome to the forum, that's a really nice looking car you have there. we get used to seeing small bumper end Cabbys Being colour keyed but not the tin tops as we didn't get the Pirelli version over here officially.

What's the history behind the car?

Golf GTI Campaign 1983 Mars Red, Ford S-Max 2015, Audi TT 180 quattro 2003, Fiat 500C 2013, Golf GTE MK7.5

Good evening everyone

The history is crazy on this car, but here we go, the first owner was in the RAF he was posted to Germany where he ordered the Pirelli edition in right hand drive for his wife. It was then imported to the uk, this car featured in gti special edition 6 on the front page and middle section (see pics) it was then put up for sale in vw classic where my friends dad neighbour bough the car for his wife, she sadly pasted away and the car sat in the garage for 15 years, it goes on, but am the 5th owner and she has only 83k and never been painted or welded.

Good evening everyone

But anyway am loving the mk1,  I have noticed the fuel pump is starting to hum, and is louder when I put the handbrake on any ideas, could it be the pump on it's way out.

Good evening everyone

The pumps do hum a bit.
Clean the fuel pump relay contacts as a starter.
Change the fuse too.
Also take back seat out open the round plate to access the in tank lift pump.
Check for rust particles in the tank. If there's loads flush  tank and fuel lines out. Check the fuel filler neck for rust too.

Nice car…. lush even… fuel pumps are available at reasonable prices new. So if on way out get a pair purchased. Assuming there's inline and in tank fitted to the car. Classic-vw.co.uk and crazyquiff sell pumps as does vwheritage and eBay.

Welcome Jonny. That's a lovely MK1

If the pump hums louder when you put the handbrake on, I think the handbrake cable must be fouling against the pump housing or a fuel line and making either the vibration louder, or worst still, pressing on a flexi pipe and restricting flow.

I'd check the cable position out and that all is ok
