Settling In
I’ve been looking Into getting a mk1 for a few years now.
Budget isn’t huge so I’m not sure where to start really. I was wondering if there is a guide on here (tried a search) explaining the different models/trim, etc.
I’ve been lurking (and learning) for a few months but can’t seem to suss out which models for which year and which would be the best to start with for a low end budget…
I’d be looking at a cabrio, most likely.
Some of your cars are beauts and I can’t wait to see them at the annual gathering!
Thanks,
Adam.

Newbie waiting to buy.
Buy one that needs lots doing and spending and depending on your skill level or what people you know to assist.
There’s projects then there’s some only fit for the scrap man.
Often the ones that are repainted attract people but I find often than not the hood has been masked around and the metal work under neglected. So new gets damaged when you have to start welding.
Plus there is a masking line the odds of the new hood covering that aren’t good either.
So if it’s been painted make sure you check those out.
Also often folks put new hoods on but don’t sort out the headliner which is often left hanging torn or so dirty it’s uncleanable.
Also the centre section is left rotting away.
Often the rear window frame is reused when it should of been changed and the rear window not fitted proper. So it’ll leak.
The problem being is the hood, centre section has to be removed to change the headliner.
So it’s an exercise in futility.
So you can buy what looks decent only to find you’ve lots more to spend and that you’ll quickly put into the car more than it’s market value.
Take someone with you that knows bout these cars.
If you’re looking around the Midlands hive me a shout and I’d be happy to look with you.

Did you see the quality of some cars, and the time and effort that goes into them.
A good price is now been asked for cars now, the days of £1k cars seems to have gone, so for a good useable car expect to be looking at £3-6k Anything more and then you start looking at low miles, fsh, show quality cars that start to command far higher prices, the car of the show winner stated 800hrs of time spent on 1 car, if that was local garage rates that would be £24k labour rates, without parts and car to fix.
It is the harewood house show in 2 weeks near leeds, and there will be a few cars for sale there…. i'll be there, with some member's from north west region, so you get see if locals have anything hidden away.
send me a PM and i maybe able to show you a car or 4
