Started the restoration of my Mk1 Golf Caddy from a shell 2 years ago. Not a daily driver, insurance is way high. Just a casual project at the moment, slowly doing bits and bobs.
Glad to finally be a part of the community.

Welcome to the club first of all.
Your Caddy looks extremely good, it would be great if you could post up some more photos and tell us more about it! 🤔

Great to see you've become a fully paid member, I hope you enjoy some if not all of the benefits it brings. 👍

So I started the project in August 2014 with my father. We purchased 2 shells from West Devon with a miss match of parts and a original 1.6 engine from Brighton in the shell of an old disability vehicle. We chose one of the shells from Devon, and started building off that. 13 months later, a lot of faffing, body filler, swearing and cold winter mornings, she was ready for a spray. I spent a year driving her provisionally, but since September 2016 I have been at University, and financing the insurance was a bit tight so I haven't been driving it.
For the last year it has sat on parents driveway, and was occasionally driven by my father and dismantled for the odd replacement part. Looking forward to my next insurance year when I can insure her properly.

I've still got work to do, it needs original seats, the current ones are modified from a MK3 Golf. I have a pair of the original orange stripped ones, however they need a complete overhaul. I'd really like to fit a wooden lattice in the bed to protect the paint work, and make a roof rack.
Ultimately i'd also like a original GTI engine for her, but insuring her at the moment is hard enough.

Nice looking Caddy you have there, welcome to the club.
Whereabouts in west Wilts are you? I'm in Devizes. Did you drive it through Devizes on New Year's Day? I saw an orange caddy drive through.
