My Lhasa campaign

Hello all  :D

I've been a member for a while, but I finally got round to getting some pics of my mk1 sorted. Not sure if i'm allowed to post pics up here- but here goes!

Its a totally standard campaign, bought when I was 19 (22 now). Im only the second owner, (Ive known the first owner all my life) and she has a genuine 51k on the clock- honest!

Hi to crazyquiff also - this is my car mate, thanks for all the bits, the bulbs came through on saterday.

What do you guys reckon to her? Great forum by the way

looks great, even better is the fact you know the previous owner and can stand by the low mileage and histroy.

Thanks guys

Dub_driver - im based in surrey mate, a stones throw from gatwick airport.

I wasnt aware that all campaigns had VDO guages?

Yes-it does feel very tight, but while the inside is completley mint, there are a couple of small bodywork issues. The most important being the first signs of corrosion around the rear arches. Not major, but hopefully sorted soon!m 8)

big pic of the rear…

The vdo gauges were an option on the campaign just like on the series Two which were fitted by the Vw dealer if you went with the option.

I've got the original bill of sale somewhere cant remember what it says, but vw didnt really use the term campaign much did they?

dcuk - thanks mate! She aint perfect though, as I said. But is totally original. I hope to reach perfection one day, nso not for sale im afraid. And anyway, then it would have had three owners!!

I was at uni when I heard that the original owner might be selling. I wrote to him like a shot, because i'd had my eye on it for years! A month or so later, and she was mine. I spent what was left of my savings on new fuel lines & regulator, clutch, brakes, suspension bits, and exhaust (all known about before sale).

Strings to its bow include:

The original stickers are all present, the inside is totally mint!

The spare p-slot and jack have NEVER been used! Nor have the passenger or rear seats by the look.

I've got the bill of sale (somewhere!),and every single mot certificate and tax disc from day one!

It gets to spend its time (when its raining, or im out or at work) in my parents bone dry garage!

Hopefully many happy years of motoring ahead - I still have 'the list' of niggles to deal with though.

So how come its only managed to clock 51,000 miles in 23 Years?

So rare to find an original GTI, let alone a campaign thats hardly been used. Most people bought them and ran them hard in the 80's heyday!

Mines done 205,000 Miles and was doing nearly 30,000 miles some years (according to records)

Anyway, im sure ul take good care of it, and keep us posted on any improvements. Best colour by the way!!  :D

Well, the low mileage is down to the lifestyle of the first owner.

As I said, im on the doorstep of gatwick airport, and this guy is a pilot. the car has only really ever been used to ferry him to and from work (although I was concerned that the short trips may have led to lasting damage in the engine - but I think its ok).

He also has another house and a couple more cars in northern Ireland, so that lead to it being used even less. 8)

I have very fond memories as a kid of about 10, when Roy (1st owner) would stop outside my parent's house on his way home, and chat to my old man for a while - all the time I'd be flying up and down the road on my mountain bike gawping at the golf! You're right actually, it is a bit of a dream come true  :)

Do you have any pics of yours? Good to know that its still going strong at 205K!

Lovely to see a genuine car with low mileage, also a nice story that you wanted it for so long! Congratulations! Having seen some of the crazy prices on ebay recently you should be very very VERY pleased with yourself!  :D

As far as I know no Campaigns left wolfsburg with the guages - they were all dealer fit like the radios.

Chris - Very tasty Lahsa Campaign with excellent history.

Cheers

Chris,

Here some pics of mine, not as standard or clean as yours! Been sitting in the garage for the past 18 months!!

Bringing it out of hibernation as soon as the weather gets better, needs a few things doing (Interior as you can see) Rust around sunroof, filler cap, etc…. And gettin rid of that horrible eyebrow spoiler and swapping the wheels for some nice BBS ones

And heres some of my lovely totally orginal Mars Red that i had to sell  :(
