I think even the carb engined ones are insurance grp 14 :dontknow:

I would have thought that even 3rd party is going to be ?thousands for a 17 year old.

The cars themselves can be picked up from ?500-?2,500 for usable ones. Very rare/low milage think of a number and double it.

The problem is with a cabriolet is they are a higher theft and vandalism risk, so cost more than a normal car to insure at the best of times. couple that with your age, and the fact the smallest engined one is a 1500cc and I think you'll be hard pushed to insure one at what I would call a reasonable cost.

Must say ricoshay, I agree with the others! Even on a classic policy with limited mileage, at 17 I doubt anyone would even insure you! Why not try a small engined hard top for a couple of years, you will always get your money back, maybe even make a little! I am 33 and have mine on a 3000 mile a year limit, still cost me ?530 and I keep it in my garage! Granted when it is 15 years old on a classic policy it should come down! Hope this doesn't put you off!  :(

Engines start from the 1.5, and there are 1.6 and 1.8 varients, both carb and injection. However, you'd do well to heed the advice above I'm afraid. Cabriolets are not cheap to insure regardless.

I had a 1.8 carb cabriolet (only 90bhp) and it was over ?500 a year for me at age 33.

A 1.1 or 1.3 Mk1 Golf tintop can be a great entree into the mk1 world. You can enjoy all the handling and wheel combinations in the meantime while you build up your NCB.

Cheers,

Drew.

I will add to that, That area you live is also dependant on insurance. Mine is ?330 FC at 27 with FNCB. but at 22 i could not get insured.

Shop around, i have found the best place for insurance is the Supermarkets. Good luck
