Cedric , France , 49 years old ,
I'm addicted to MK1 , since a very long time , but also 911.
I own also a MK1 convertible , totally rebuilded , a GT3 MK1 ,
I'm just finishing a total rejuvenation of my MK1 1800 , paint , engine , interior…………………..with a goal : light is right , without modifying excessively ,
It's a Cresson engine , this guy prepared in the 80's the Golf MK1 engines , and i 've had many difficulties to find parts to rebuild it.
Excuse my way of writing , i know it's far to be perfect………………
I thank the team for the help in registering on this forum ,

First , i thank you for your kind words,
I'm from south France , not far from Toulouse , about an hour.
Michel Cresson was the french Oettinger to resume , he upgraded the MK1 , transforming the 1600 engine to 1870 cm3.
Crankshaft ( from USA Golf) , cams , big valves , fuel pump , complete exhaust…………………..the MK1 delivered 144 cv in this configuration ,
He added a FD gearbox , very short , but that depended of the customers desires , and what they wanted to pay for………….
And it's really complicated to find again , after all these years , parts to rejuvenate it.
Some specifications :
Max speed : 201.2 km/h
400 m : 16.15 s
1000 m : 29.54 s
The best way to find a left hand drive , in a correct shape , is this french website : https://www.leboncoin.…arbox=1®date=1976-1984
I i can help you in your search , just let me know ,
Cheers ,
Ced'

So i decided to search more , and after some help , it has appears clearly it was a Cresson engine , with all these specifications , very particulars.
I've been obliged to buy pistons from Wiseco , very expensive , crankshaft from an usa dismantler ……………a real treasure search , and all is not perfect , due to a loss of originals values.
But i'm satisfyed , that represents a bunch of work , and it's always a pleasure to drive it. I hope my way of speaking is understandable , do not hesitate to correct me if needed.
I keep really good memory of my stay in Bolsover , near Sheffield , in the end of the 80's ,
