Can I use it in the winter...?
Great sight, I've just joined and have a question about the immortal Mk1 - I'm thinking of buying one quite soon, been all round the houses looking for a good, fast little car that didn't make me look like some pube-less chav and the original Mk1 is certainly the best.
I'd be using it every day for the 10 miles to work, but don't have a garage so would have to leave it on the drive all year round - is this a recipe for disaster? Or can I expect my loved one to hold its own against the wind, sleet and snow?
…also, how much would I be looking at for a respray of a Black or Mars Red? (still haven't decided on my favourite).
Cheers

Just make sure its waxoyled up and wash any salt of every few days and you'll be fine.
It was built to be used remember, don't just leave it in the garage !

Make sure you get some dash vents from crazyquiff - will help demist your windscreen in the winter which is a huge bonus!

If you clean the salt off regulalry, and make sure it's undersealed/waxoyled properly before winter, I see no reason why the car should suffer too much as a result. Mechanically they are excellent whatever the weather, just make sure your cold start valve and injector are doing their job properly else it'll be a sod to start and keep running on very cold mornings.

Once the mechanicals are sorted, spray with waste oil every so often and Bobs your uncle!!

you would be looking at between 1000 and 1500 for a good respray in a solid couler such as mars red, schwartz black or alpine white but allways try to see how good the bodyshop u go withs work is! gd luck mate!

With other cars iv'e owned, always washed them reguraly and very thoroughly under the arches rear and front, its the bodywork you don't see that need to be clean and things should'nt go down hill too quickly, but all cars rust in the end if used, its part of the fun I suppose. Better than watching it rust away in the garage
